01 The Back Story

01 The Back Story

01 The Back Story

For all my life I have been a big football fan and since I was a small boy my Saturdays were spent with my dad watching our local football team Seapatrick FC. For many years he was involved in the club as both a player and on the committee.

So it was only right that I followed in his footsteps and do my bit to help the club too. For a few years I played for the club myself and then cause of Uni and COVID I decided to stop but I always went to watching games and kept in touch with the lads too.

Then one Saturday in 2022 I was watching a game and the club chairman asked me if I knew anyone who could look after the running of the clubs Facebook page to which I said that I would do it and since the I have been designing fixtures and results for them and loving every minute of it.

02 Where I get my ideas

To come up with my ideas for the different fixture and results I would go onto google and do an image search for different fixture lists other teams around the world have done. I would even look at what local teams like Irish league teams Crusaders FC and Carrick Rangers FC are doing with theirs.

As I am a big football fan I follow a lot of clubs on social media, my favourite team being Manchester United FC but I also would follow the likes of Wrexham FC and Fulham and from looking at how they promote match day fixtures and results I have gotten loads of ideas to keep mine fresh and current.

03 Before & After

When I took over the runnings of the Facebook page The image on the left was what the club was using beforehand and I found it to have too much going on, too much blank space and not telling our users enough information about the upcoming fixture. I also found that it was not clear on what team they where talking about in regards to the firsts, reserves or U17s

So after finding some inspiration, I did a whole new redesign of the fixture posts to make them cleaner and easier to understand. I have gone through a few different iterations from having all three teams in the one post to then changing it to having three separate posts for each team.

The most recent post I have done is the one you see on the right below. I believe that It has come a long way since the start, it looks way more professional and brings the clubs standards up and its social media presence up as well.

The most are now more beneficial to the readers as they can see who the team us playing, date and time and they can see what team is playing be it the Firsts, Reserves or the U17s. The rest of the info like the location will be fond in the body copy in the post below the picture

Another way I would like to take this project further for the upcoming season is to start uploading the team's match day squads as well as the fixtures. This will all depend on my working status and if I am working Saturdays. The tow images below show some ideas that I have for potential team lineups.

I think this would be a good way to add more professionalism within the club as all professional clubs will show their lineups for each game they have.

Lets people know who is playing in each game for each of the three teams that we have.

Personally, it will give me another way to show off my design skills if I start to do this and the fixtures.

05 What has come of
my changes

Since taking over social media duties the club has gone up in many ways. Before we only had a facebook page but now we also have an Instagram with over 150 followers and as Instagram is a more popular platform than Facebook we have been getting more shares and more engagement from followers.

Like I touched on before with the engagement of followers I have noticed the club getting more comments more people sharing the posts and even more likes on the posts.

I also see that from taking over and changing the look and feel of the socials the club has never looked so professional cause when you look at big teams like Man Utd, Inter Miami FC and even local teams like Crusaders FC and Carrick Rangers they all have good graphics for their fixtures, team lineups & general club information so by me volunteering and changing how we show information I have made the club look more professional and compete with the bigger teams.
